Handbag Organizer and Jewellery Roll

*this is a long post*

The idea of making these two items were put off since last year. They came up during one of my 'brainstorming session' with Rozi of Rozi's Needlework, while searching for ideas for Mom's Day, for my shop. She suggested a jewellery roll while I had an idea on handbag organizer. But I was still very new at sewing bags then, so the ideas were kept aside. I did gave sewing handbag organizer a try (twice actually) but both didn't turn out as great as it did now , LOL! Rozi had recently made one. So, finally, this year, I braved myself to try and make them for this year's Mom's Day.

Handbag organizer version 2.0 (version 1.0 was discarded *wink*)

Mom bought this for me in Jakarta sometime last July. Been using it with my Chic Mama Tote. So I had a sample to follow. Didn't copy exactly but I followed the measurement as I like the size very much.

Version 2.0 is all great except that it couldn't fit into medium size handbag. Only large ones like my Chic Mama Tote. So I decided to adjust the size on my next try. Hence, version 2.1.

I love the adjusted one better. Especially now that it can fit into medium/large size handbag. That is very important as most women these days (including myself) carry handbags of these two sizes.

Can even be used to organize baby's essentials in mama's handbag or baby's diaper bag

Jewellery Roll.

I can't remember the sample Rozi showed me. But this was recently forwarded to me by a client cum friend, Akmal who lives in Qatar. When two friends suggested the same thing, I decided to give it a try :).

These were made using beautiful brocade fabrics my mother bought me. Yup! She bought this during the same trip where she bought the handbag organizer :). Brocade was delicate and slippery to handle, especially when I'm so used to sewing anything cotton. However, I was glad I chose these fabrics over cotton as it gives the jewellery roll an exclusive look. Very suitable for the occasion too.

Love Note : Have you thought of what to get / make for your mom/ mom in law? I'm still searching for ideas. Hope I can find time to make something for them..cause lately, my time management is very lousy especially when it involves sewing *sigh*~. Must be hormonal. Hah! *wink*

Dinner and of Meeting New Aquaintances

Had makan-makan at the Famous Hj. Sharin Low, a newly opened Muslim Chinese Restaurant in Bangi last Sunday night. It was a special treat by mr.hubby's friend, Jamili, the towkay of Asyimi Style Network. Another associate, Hafiz was also there. All three brought their families along.

It was my first time meeting Jamili's and Hafiz's the wife,Syima and Izza. Didn't get to chat much as we arrived late. By the time we got there, the others already started eating.

I managed to whipped up a gift for the two ladies on the morning of the day itself.All done in an hour. Made them each an identical wristlet. I used the swirl cotton fabric I have in my stash. Had it for quite sometime but didn't know what to make out of it until now. Sweet aren't they? :)

To Izza & Syima, it was a pleasure meeting you both. Hope you two like your gift.

Congratulations Tab & Razif

My cousin Razif wed his sweetheart, a bubbly & sweet thai girl, Tab in late 2009. I remembered going to their reception (groom's side) when I was still in confinement after given birth to Akif. And middle of last month, they were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Sofea. I hope I get the name & the spelling right. I have yet to meet the new parents and their baby. Tab is doing her confinement in JB at my aunty's (her in laws). They will only be coming back to KL middle of march.

Right after I was done sewing for lil Umar, I took advantage of my sewing-baby-stuffs mood to sew this diaper pouch as a present for them. (Yup! this diaper pouch was made weeks back. Tak ingat belum publish). Diaper pouch is super great to have when going out. This one has one pocket on the outside and I made a matching changing mat lined with flannel in bold fuschia pink to go with it. Along with the diaper pouch is a matching big butt baby pants.

Love the size. This pouch can hold up to 3 pieces of diapers and a change of clothes.

Closes with snap button- quick & easy!

Top view. Don't You just love the fact that you can put in almost everything it this pouch? Pocket in front is suitable for travel size baby wipes, baby oil / lotion and even nappy rash cream. Hmmm..maybe I should make one for myself too ;)

Last I checked, this gift has safely arrived in JB. Hope both Tab & Razif enjoy this gift. Welcome to the world of parenthood! And have a wonderful one too....

Welcome Umar an-Nasri

I was suppose to make a post on breastfeeding (as I mentioned here)..but it is not yet complete and still in draft mode. So i thought, another sewing post would not do this blog any harm, right?  *wink*

Umar will be 2 months old in a week. With this new addition, my parents now have 4 grandchildren and they are all BOYS. Yup! You read it right.Four boys. The first three are mine.  Lagi tunggang terbalik lah rumah Tok & Aki ;).

For Umar, Mami Naza made you a romper and a matching sunhat. This romper uses the same pattern as the one I made for Akif earlier. Made it in plain grey cotton-linen fabric enhanced with designer cotton, Mingle in Summer, at the collar, yoke (the shoulder panel), sleeves, pocket and the leg bands.  I also made you a pair of of big butt baby pants in denim with baby dino prints at the cuffs. Looking at them, well, those are about all of the things I can sew (at the moment) that's suits a little person like you. However, you may not be able to wear them yet as I made them all in sizes..ermmm..1Y and up. Oppss! Hehehe.., Worry not dear, you'd be running in those romper and pants before you know it. And I'm looking forward to that moment too :).

For my sis-in-law, I made her a nursing cover. She wanted the nursing cover to be in cute children print and specifically not in white. The only print I have in enough yardage & fit her request was this Sue Bonnet print in brown. I hope she's going to like it.

She made herself a pledge to breastfeed her baby for as long as she can. And I support her. As a new mother, it was a challenging start a first but she got through it.  And she still have a long way to go. With a lot of patience, determination and support, she will get to where she's going, insyaAllah.

Handmade birthday present for dear sister and cousin..

Some of you may have read on Hafiy's 4th birthday post here. Made a drawstring backpack for him. It wasn't his birthday present though. If was one of my UFo(s). Made from scraps i received from Nykolett.  Will write about that in another post (after I'm done with another two projects from the same scrap).

My sister, Nadira celebrated her 24th birthday on the 3rd of January. She had recently completed her studies in UiTM. Initially, a chef wannabe. She took Diploma in Culinary Arts. But then, changed her mind on working in long hours in hot and stuffy kitchen. So she pursued her degree in Culinary Arts Management.

For her, i made her the sling version of the Itsy Slouch Hobo bag. When I first came out with the bag, she asked me to make the sling version. So, I decided to make her one as her birthday present. Dearest Ya, this may not be a Guess or an Esprit or even a Fossil bag. But it was made with you in mind and with lotsa L.O.V.E. Hope you like it!

For a dear cousin who stays in New Zealand and who recently commissioned me with a BIG order to take back to NZ, I made her a passport sleeve. She'll be celebrating her birthday end of this months. Read about her BIG order here.How big was her order, take a look at the pic below ;).

Happy Birthday Ma!

It's my beloved Ma's birthday today. Made a huggy ruffle pillow for her. When I saw the Ginger Tiles print from Sandi Henderson at Lovemelots, I see my mother's name printed all over it heheheh ;P. Used the Ginger Tiles for the front side and Amy Butler's Memento in Burgundy for the ruffles & for the back side of the pillow.

Ties for closure

I was inspired by the way Rozi personalises pillows for her customer (you can read about it here), so I did the same with this pillow. But since I don't  have an embroidery machine, I just used the alphabet stitches available on my machine. It may not be as pretty as if it was embroidered but I love it :D.

As for the pillow case, I fell in love with the one made by lazyorganizer.com. However, Idid not use the measurement given as this pillow is a little smaller than the normal sleeping pillow. I made this 20" x 16". Oh..and I also skipped the quilting part (as I have yet to master that ;).
 

 

And...I also made a matching birthday card for her too. Can't wait to give Ma her present. Hope she's going to love it ;).

For Mi Amour

He turned 34 on Monday. Have yet to celebrate cause we are all a little under the weather at the moment. The man himself have been whispering since yesterday as he had temporarily lost his voice. And me..as of  this morning, I have finally regained my sense of smell & taste..Alhamdulillah ( had a bad blocked nose ;P).

Back to the titled story, I made me man a wallet. He is very picky when it comes to wallets. He does not wear the normal men wallets we normally see in the market. He would always want to find something different. If he couldn't, he would rather go without one. Yup! And he has been walletless for months now. The last one he own was stolen.

I didn't know what to get him for his birthday. And since I have not sewn anything for him yet, I thought I'd make him a wallet. This was made using a denim fabric bought from Daiso. The design is similar to his last one. Can fit his phone inside too. Well, the wallet is actually more for him to put his business cards, his driving license and his MyKad. Money? Was never in the wallet.

Personalised the wallet with scraps I bought from MyBotanG. The 3 fishes represent our 3 boys while the big fish represents me-lah hahaha. It has 3 slip pockets - one at the front &one at the back for his business cards while another one is inside for his IDcards.  Added a swivel hook so mr.Hubby can hooked on his thumbdrives.

The best part about making this wallet was, it was done in a day, 2 days earlier than his birthday. I couldn't wait 2 days so...gave him the next morning. And he used it right away :).

Pressies for my besties :)

I was invited by Nadiah, my best friend since childhood for 'kenduri doa selamat' ( a small get together feast to recite prayers -in this case, for safe journey & safe return) last friday as her parents & her mother-in-law will be leaving for Mecca soon to perform their haj . And, since the day before was her birthday, I decided to whipped up something for her - a Money Purse. I didn't make just one though. Another bf, Iman celebrated her birthday during the Eid holidays so a Money Purse is a great belated birthday gift for her too.

Initially I wanted to make & give them as Raya (Eid) presents but I was swamped with orders and datelines in Ramadan so I didn't have the time to even start. When I got the invitation, I know I have to work on them as soon as possible.So here they are..

 I don't fancy wallet (anymore). I prefer one purse like this to put all my cash in ( this can even fit small envelopes for cash management purposes ;). And a card holder to put all my cards in.

I made two more Money Purses after that. The dotted one was for a dear friend, Aofah who has been supporting my handmade ever since I started making them. She ordered with me thrice and will be ordering again soon, insyaAllah ;).  Recently I made a shout out at Facebook looking for a preloved safety gate. She answered. And to my suprised, she gave it for freeeeeee ;D. So i decided to make one for her to say thank you.

The one in damask print is for ME hehehe...This is one of the print that made me fell in love with designer cottons in the first place. I just had to make something for myself in this design. The Money Purse was a perfect choice *happy*

Fabric Gift Card

A friend ordered a tote bag as birthday present for her mom. The bag was mentioned in my previous post here. Since she is currently in Manchester, she has also asked for a gift card to be included together with her gift. Making a card using fabric scraps didn't crossed my mind until i stumbled upon a tutorial on how to make one. You can find the tutorial here - Quilted Notecards.

Now that i have made one, I simply love it. Gotta get more fancy cards & start making more of em ;).

Other crafters that have also made cards from fabric scraps, among the many are myBotang and tinihani.
